German flag carrier Lufthansa has apologized after an incident during which a passenger spotted that his bag had been left behind in plain sight on the tarmac at Munich Airport (MUC) last week. Passenger Karn Rateria said that the crew was dismissive of his concerns, but he was reunited with his bags.

Lufthansa has issued an apology following an incident during which a passenger’s bag was left behind on the tarmac at Munich Airport (MUC), The Independent reports. Traveler Karn Rateria was departing on a flight from the facility last week and looked out of the plane window to see his luggage on the tarmac. The outlet reports that he raised the issue to the cabin crew, who reportedly dismissed his concerns.

He then messaged the airline via Twitter along with a photo that showed his bag on the tarmac. The message, as quoted by the outlet, reads, “Uhm Lufthansa you’ve left my bag on the tarmac! I told the crew and they just said loading is complete. I can SEE the bag. And we’re taking off without it. What even is this?”.

The airline replied, “Very sorry for that. There was an outage of the baggage system at the airport in Frankfurt. My colleagues are doing their best to locate the bags and send them as quick as possible.”

Rateria, of course, replied that his bag was at Munich Airport and not Frankfurt Airport (FRA). He added that the incident was “infuriating”, but has since been reunited with his belongings.

Offering a comment to the outlet via a statement, the manager for the carrier at Munich said, “This was a rare technical problem at the baggage drop, which appeared only for this single registered baggage. However, our ground staff identified this bag quickly and sent this to the passenger. We apologise for the inconvenience.”

LOL. This brings memories. Many moons ago, connecting at ZRH, I was on a bus headed to the remote stand and I literally saw MY suitcase fall off a bag cart, unbeknownst to the bag tug driver. The bag just lay there helplessly in the middle of a tarmac thoroughfare. Needless to say, the bag did NOT connect on the same flight I did.

My husband and I took a trip around the world in 2010 and took 21 flights. Nearly every flight we saw lone bags on the tarmac looking out the window from the plane arriving/departing from the gate. We haven't seen it so often lately but we don't fly as much.
