Hyatt Quietly Ends Diamond Challenge Promotion

Effective October 31, Hyatt no longer allows guests to participate in Diamond Challenges.

Frequent Hyatt guests who would like to achieve Diamond rewards status are no longer able to participate in a challenge to get there. The hotel company quietly ended its Diamond Challenge promotion on Halloween.

Previously, guests who were elite members with Hilton, IHG, Starwood or Marriott, and who had stayed at least one night in one of those hotels, were able to request a challenge to raise their Hyatt status to Diamond level. Once approved for the challenge, all guests needed to do was stay 12 nights within 60 days at a Hyatt hotel, during which travelers were able to take advantage of Diamond status perks, use four suite upgrades and earn 1,000 bonus points for the first six nights each.

Although this promotion has ended, it is not the first time guests have been afforded such an opportunity. Hyatt offered a slightly different version of the Diamond Challenge earlier this year. The earlier version ran through the end of April 2014, and a new version was on May 1, so another iteration of the challenge may be in the works.

For now, though, guests must rely on the old methods of obtaining Diamond status: completing 25 stays or 50 eligible nights in a calendar year. Diamond status-holders enjoy a number of perks during their stay at participating Hyatt properties, including bonus points-earning power, exclusive access to the club lounge, free breakfasts, a nightly room refresh, four suite upgrades annually and the ability to check-out late.
