Hyatt Offers COVID-19 Testing At 19 Central American Resorts

Hyatt Offers COVID-19 Testing At 19 Central American Resorts

After an executive order required all inbound flyers to the United States to get tested for COVID-19, Hyatt will offer guests at all 19 Latin American resorts two free tests per room. For those who cannot get tested prior to their return flight, the hotels will offer a travel delay rate of up to 50 percent on standard rates.

Now that all inbound travelers to the United States must take a COVID-19 test prior to arrival – including American citizens and nationals – Hyatt is making it easier for guests at their Latin American resort properties to access one. The hotel company announced they will immediately start offering guests of 19 participating resorts access to COVID-19 tests prior to departure.

New Policy Applies to Guests at Select Resorts Across Latin America and the Bahamas

Hyatt’s new policy is in direct response to a policy set in place by president Joe Biden, requiring all passengers entering the United States to be tested for COVID-19 prior to arrival, and submit to a quarantine period. Most of the resorts are located in major tourist destinations, including the cities of Cancun, Los Cabos, Playa del Carmen and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and properties in Aruba, The Bahamas, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica. In South America, only the Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro is participating.

Under the rules, Hyatt will provide a complimentary COVID-19 test for up to two registered guests per room who are departing for the United States. The tests will either be rapid antigen tests or RT-PCR tests. The tests must be conducted during the stay, and guests cannot request a refund credit for untaken or refused tests. Guests may be required by their hotel to establish their results and provide proof of travel to the U.S.

If a test result or inability to take a test forces a traveler to stay longer at their hotel, Hyatt will also offer discounted rates to extend a traveler’s stay. Under their special travel delay rate, guests can get up to a 25 percent savings off standard rates at select service hotels and a 50 percent discount on standard rates at full service hotels. The travel delay rate also includes a 30 percent discount on food and beverage, excluding alcohol.

“Everything we do is grounded in listening and fueled by care,” Mark Vondrasek, chief commercial officer at Hyatt, said in a press release. “Our new complimentary COVID-19 testing and Travel Delay Rate provide travelers with added confidence, peace of mind and convenience when staying at or considering travel to Hyatt properties in Latin America.”

More Travel Brands Offer Options to Get Tested Prior to Travel

Although Hyatt is among the first hotel brands to offer COVID-19 testing to guests traveling outbound to the United States, more travel companies are offering test access. As part of United’s Travel Ready Center, flyers can schedule a novel Coronavirus test straight through their website or smartphone app at hundreds of locations across the U.S.

I believe the policy was “set in place” by the CDC under the previous administration.
