Hotel Introduces “Crying Rooms” For Women, Invites Guests to Overcome Emotional Hurdles in Comfort

A Tokyo hotel is now offering women a chance to stay in their room, watch movies and cry all night.

In Tokyo, where themed hotels rule — including ones designed around Godzilla, Christmas and more — women now have the option of staying in rooms specifically for a good cry. The Mitsui Garden Hotel Yotsuya in the Shinjuku ward has introduced special rooms designed specifically for female guests who wish to “cry heartily” in comfort.

Women who visit the hotel are invited to stay secluded in a private room, watch a variety of tearjerker movies, read emotional manga and use luxury tissues to wipe their eyes. To help guests reduce puffiness and swelling of the eyes the following day, each crying room comes stocked with makeup remover and steam eye masks.

According to an official press release, as reported by the Daily Mail, the hotel has introduced the rooms to give women a private space to go and de-stress or  overcome emotional problems they might be suffering from. Twelve movies are available for viewing, including Forrest GumpA Moment to Remember, and A Tale of Mari and Three Puppies. Each movie was selected for its ability to elicit emotional responses.

A stay in one of the hotel’s crying rooms will cost you ¥10,000, around $83, per night. The real tearjerker is that these rooms are part of a special promotion and only available through August 31.

For the men's version, acceptable films are limited to a small number of categories: sports related (Rudy, Field of Dreams), Shawshank Redemption, or dog related (Old Yeller, Turner and Hooch).

Yes very truly said Relangford, people should get inner comfort from such rooms and not another tension of being watched.

Ah, Japan, where some hotels even have sound-generating equipment to mask "those" sounds from bathrooms. In the U.S.A., there would be an equality "cry" for similar rooms for men (pun intended). I won't suggest films for these rooms.

Before I clicked on the headline, the first thought I had was "Japan." I don't know of any other country where this could possibly happen.
