HKG to Reduce Overnight Flights in 2017
Starting in summer of 2017, Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) plans to reduce the number of overnight arriving and departing flights from 37 flights per hour to 32 flights per hour. This move will significantly lessen the amount of noise in the region for Hong Kong residents living near the airport, many of whom have complained of an inability to sleep due to the nighttime noise.
Roy Tam Hoi-pong, a district councillor for Ma Wan said he welcomes the reduction of flights.
“Any measure that can reduce aircraft flight noise is a good thing,” the councillor said.

This is the new airport that opened about 15 years ago so no it was not there first.
What a stupid idea. Let's be honest - if 37 fights an hour are going to keep you awake, so are 32. One flight every 97.3 seconds instead of every 112.5 seconds. A difference of 5.2 seconds. Enjoy the extra sleep!! Sheesh Geographically it isn't hard to grasp the idea that long-haul flights from HKG are mostly to the Americas (with a time difference of 12-16 hours) or Europe (with a time difference of 6-8 hours) which means that the best departure times are mid-late morning or late at night. The far more sensible idea would be to set a decibel limit so that only more modern, quiet planes can be used. Ban all the noisy ancient planes that many cargo carriers use. That would actually make a difference....
Wasn't the airport there first?
