Hilton Honors Extends Status Through 2022 With Rollover Nights

Hilton Honors elite members will be able to keep their status through 2022, thanks to a new provision by the loyalty program. The hotel will roll over the expiration date on current status for an additional year, while offering rollover night credits to qualify for future benefit years.

As travelers are grounded due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hilton Honors will extend the loyalty status of nearly all elite members, while offering rollover credits on guest nights for coming years. The new initiative is aimed at those who were not able to renew status because of travel restrictions and “stay-at-home” orders across the United States.

Elite Status Extended up to 2023, Based on Expiration Date

Under the plan, guests who held status in the past year would qualify for additional time added to their expiration date. Members who last held status in 2019 with an expiration date of Mar. 31, 2020, will automatically receive an extension of their status through Mar. 31, 2021. Those who currently have Hilton Honors elite status – including top-tier Diamond – will have their elite status extended through Mar. 31, 2022. This grants current elites an additional year of status.

In addition, all guests who stay at any Hilton-branded hotel in 2020 will have all their nights rollover to the next year, counting towards their 2022 elite status. To qualify for the rollover nights, members must either book through Hilton.com, or the Hilton Honors smartphone app.

In addition, the hotel loyalty program is also extending the expiration date of all points and weekend nights earned on eligible Hilton-branded credit cards. Points expiration will be paused through Dec. 31, 2020, while all unexpired weekend night rewards issued until Aug. 30, 2020, will have their expiration date extended to Aug. 31, 2021.

American Express Offers More Rewards on Hilton Card Spending

In addition to the extended status and unexpired points, Hilton and American Express are also teaming up to offer cardholders more rewards for their spending. Both the Hilton Honors Card and Hilton Honors Amex Surpass® Card offer extra points at U.S. restaurants, U.S. supermarkets and U.S. gas stations. Hilton also notes that bonus points earned on the card now count as base points, allowing cardholders to achieve elite status faster.

The move comes as more hotels extend status and offer incentives for guests to stay loyal to their brands. In June 2020, Wyndham Rewards announced they would reduce 2020 elite requirements to encourage guests to stay at their branded hotels.

Extra points for use of the basic Hilton Honors Card? I have the card, but am not aware of this. Can you give more details?

what about people who have elite status from their credit card and don't renew/downgrade their card? I have the aspire card and plan to not renew after a year, especially if I can't utilize my diamond benefits. My renewal will be in 2021, so if I cancel I'd normally lose my diamond status, but will I now have that status through 2022? (March 31, 2022 to be exact?)

Was at Home2Suites in Milwaukee Airport. Their breakfast area was mostly shutdown in Mid-June. The manager yelled at me for sitting in the dining area which was shut down. Very upsetting. I guess they wanted people to take food to their rooms and eat there.
