Hilton Honors is once again extending the status of all current elite members, while slashing their requirements to qualify in 2021. In addition, all members can earn bonus nights after 20 qualifying nights, and all points will not expire before Dec. 31, 2021.

Hilton Honors is making it easier for members to qualify for status in 2021, by cutting the requirements in half compared to previous years. In an e-mail to FlyerTalk, the hotel company announced the changes taking effect immediately, including an extension for those who have current status.

Elite Status Qualifications Cut in Half, While Status and Points Extended Through 2021

The biggest news to come out of Hilton’s announcement is the reduced elite status qualification requirements. Starting Jan. 1, 2021, the new elite tier requirements are:

  • Silver: 5 nights, 2 stays, or 25,000 base points
  • Gold: 20 nights, 10 stays or 37,500 base points
  • Diamond: 30 nights, 15 stays or 60,000 base points

As the hotel loyalty program previously noted, all nights stayed in 2020 will roll over to the 2021 loyalty year.

In addition, Hilton Honors is also reducing the milestone bonus night requirements. Members will start earning bonus award nights after staying 20 nights in 2021, along with a bonus of 10,000 points. After that, members will earn 10,000 bonus points for every additional 10 nights above the level in a calendar year. If they reach 60 nights in 2021, they will still earn the 30,000-point milestone bonus.

For all members, the program is extending the expiration date for all points to Dec. 31, 2021, while current elites will get even more time at their current tier. All current status holders will have their status extended until March 31, 2022.

Finally, Hilton Honors American Express card members will also get extra benefits in 2021. Cardholders’ bonus points will continue to count as base points on eligible purchases through Dec. 31, 2021 and will count towards elite status – including lifetime Diamond status. Any free weekend night reward certificates can be used for stays any day of the week, and will expire on Dec. 31, 2022.

Reduced Status Latest Guest-Friendly Move to Encourage Travel

With their announcement, Hilton Honors becomes the second award program to lower their status requirements for the 2021 benefit year. Earlier in October, American Airlines announced they were cutting elite status requirements for AAdvantage members, requiring less flights and elite qualifying dollar spending to earn carrier recognition.
