Here’s What We Know About United’s New Look

Chicago, IL, USA - March 17, 2016: A United Airlines 747-400 landing on 28C at the Chicago O'hare Airport.

United Airlines is trying to unite its look across all operations. The airline is getting a style makeover that will introduce a standard color palette. Customers will see the new palette used on employee uniforms, on meal linens and in many other spots when they travel with United.

The airline is focused on creating a visual identity that reflects its modern spirit. United is hoping that the crisp, innovative new look that is being created will give travelers a positive impression of the airline and make it more memorable for customers.

The main color that will be at the core of the Chicago-based airline’s new look is a dark navy hue that has been named Rhapsody Blue. The main color will be joined by a lighter shade of blue called United Blue, an even lighter blue called Sky Blue and a blue shade with green tones called Pacific Blue.

United informed its 90,000 employees of the new color palette at the beginning of August. However, nobody has yet been given a glimpse of what the new employee uniforms will look like. The uniforms are currently still in the design phase. What has been revealed by United is that the new uniforms will feature pops of color.

Employees will actually get a say regarding what their new uniforms look like. United is seeking the input of its employees through special listening sessions. Brooks Brothers has been tasked with creating the uniforms.

United isn’t the only airline in the process of rolling out a new look. Delta Air Lines introduced new uniforms back in May. Those plum-colored uniforms were designed by Zac Posen. Delta’s updated uniforms are sure to get a lot of use now that the airline has announced that it intends to hire somewhere around 1,000 new flight attendants between now and 2019.

News of a new look comes just a few months after word was leaked regarding United’s plan to roll out a new premium economy cabin on some of the wide-body aircraft in its fleet. United’s new premium product will supposedly offer more space and extra amenities.

Passengers will be able to look forward to perks like luxurious blankets, high-end dinnerware and free alcoholic drinks. However, United has yet to release any official word on the new product. It is expected that United Airlines will release more information regarding its new premium product and its new uniforms once the airline unveils its newly redesigned website.

I didn’t realize terrible customer service and miserly cost cutting measures were called a “modern spirit” these days but that’s interesting.
