Here’s What British Airways Is Doing With $8 Billion

British Airways recently infused a huge investment into its business – about $8 billion, spread out over the next five years. Here’s how the money is going to be used to improve the customer experience.

British Airways is due for an overhaul in some aspects of its business, and the company is on track to get it. An $8 billion investment is about to boost the airline and its level of customer experience.

“We’re going to be introducing the A350, the 787-10 and then on our short-haul fleet, which is mainly flying we do around Europe and the UK, we’ll be getting new variants of the A320 and the A321 which are the Neo,” Robert Williams, the airline’s head of sales for APAC and the Middle East, told Australia’s Travel Weekly. “At the same time, we’ve been going through a very expensive refit of some of our existing aircraft. We’re refitting interiors of 128 of our aircraft and making sure we’ve got things like installation of seat power for all customers because that’s kind of a must now, and we’re rolling out next generation wifi.”

The food service in-flight is changing as well, to ensure that along with good wifi for entertainment, each passenger is properly nourished.

“We’ve significantly changed the catering proposition in the world traveller cabin which is our economy cabin, to make sure customers travelling on those longer flights with us are getting the catering they want and keeping them well fed and well entertained throughout the flight,” Williams told Travel Weekly.

British Airways also upped the game of their Club World program, and now offers luxury bedding for passengers to use.

With that kind of money they could do some such as ohhh...remove their ridiculous surcharges for awards? (I know not a chance)

I'd be happy with a decent business class product.. Given all the great improvements in business class over the years, what was once an industry leader is now close to the back of the pack and I avoid flying them like the plague unless there are no better options.

It's nice to hear that they are finally investing on making their onboard product. I must say though I have noticed the changes they made with catering in World Traveller; flew to SFO 3 years ago and the meals on board was nothing to write about or even comment on. However, having recently flown with them to and from DXB 3 weeks ago, I can say that the meal trays are larger and quality is better. BUT BA really needs to stop serving chicken curry on WT cabins.

how about a change to your club Europe seating.. since when does a blocked middle seat mean "club" Europe? with no increase in leg room
