Hawaiian Airlines Employees Suspected of Firearm Theft

Three baggage handlers employed by Hawaiian Airlines were arrested by Maui police and federal law enforcement on Thursday for the alleged first-degree theft of several guns from the checked luggage of police officers.

Security investigators for the carrier previously flagged the suspected thefts to local authorities in August. Also, a deputy sheriff’s firearm was taken from his suitcase during a flight from Los Angeles to Hilo in June.

Two of the employees are charged with first-degree theft, and the third is charged with third-degree theft in relation to a separate case.
