Great Exchange Rates Make Exotic Destinations Cheap Travel Spots

If you’re still deciding on where to travel this year, try to get more bang for your buck with this list of destinations from Travel + Leisure that promises to get you the most for your money.

The American dollar’s exchange rate isn’t at it’s best, but it is still fairly strong against other forms of currency, even in expensive countries like Japan and Norway. From European cities to beaches in Southeast Asia and beyond, take a look at the best countries to travel to this year if you’re looking for a better deal:

South Africa

South Africa has something for everyone: Busy cities, beautiful beaches, art, dining and hotels for cheap.  $1 is approximately 12.35 rand, and hotels start as low as $14/night.

Mexico:

Although there are travel warnings for many of the states in the country directly below the border, there are still many places worth checking out, including those in coastal areas. The U.S. dollar is nearing a 10-year high against the peso making conversion rates more than favorable.

Norway:

Norway is still pricey, but the exchange rate is more favorable than usual and flights are more affordable than usual as well. Bergen, Norway has also seen a 16 percent average price drop on flights, according to Hipmunk.

New Zealand:

New Zealand is a bucket list destination trip for many, and this year is a great time to go.

Indonesia:

Indonesia and the surrounding countries are often a good way to get a good deal, thanks to low costs of living. Take the opportunity to explore beautiful temples that the country is renowned for.

Japan:

Like Norway, Japan is notoriously expensive. But travel at the right time while the exchange rate is still better than usual and it won’t cost you as much as it could have.

India:

Although India has a low cost of living, the major cost is usually on airfare. But flights are less expensive than usual, giving you a perfect opportunity to explore the different regions of the country.
