Google to Stop Sharing Airfare Data With Cheap Travel Sites

Until recently, Google has been sharing information with bargain airfare and travel sites that provide information regarding ticket prices, scheduling and seating availability. All of that is changing as Google is planning to phase out its QPX Express API, according to recent news.

Google’s developer page featured a post saying that the QPX Express will continue to operate until April 2018, after which users will have to find an alternative solution. Currently, QPX Express is used by date travel sites, booking agencies and ticketing apps to provide travel information to their users.

The move is likely because Google is boosting its own profile in the travel sphere with Google Flights gaining traction. While Google still is mainly fueled by information, it has also expanded into hardware with the introduction of new smartphones.

It remains to be seen what “solutions” third party travel sites will come up with to provide their customers with the latest travel news including ticket prices and availability.
