German Shepherd Flies Economy

A photo of a German shepherd riding in the passenger cabin of a recent domestic flight has gone viral since being uploaded, garnering over 2 million views on Imgur and Reddit. The image appears to have been snapped by a passenger sitting behind the canine. Though service animals are permitted on many flights, the post left some viewers wondering why the dog had its own seat in economy class (as opposed to being kept in a carrier).

It's not fair to the rest of the animal kingdom that dogs seem to get special treatment. I want to fly with a pet monkey and have him/her seated next to me! :-P

A friend has search dogs, they fly economy and often get their own seat.
This is animal cruelty at its most extreme. The poor animal should have been accommodated in first class.
