Fog Grounds EasyJet Flight

Low-cost carrier cancels on weather conditions, forcing flyers to other airlines.

Passengers flying from the Isle of Man found themselves stranded due to a fog bank with limited options for getting home. IOM Today reports passengers were scrambling to get to their final destinations after their flight couldn’t arrive on time due to the weather conditions.

The EasyJet flight departed from London Gatwick Airport (LGW) with scheduled service to Ronaldsway on the Isle of Man. However, after heavy fog settled in the area, the aircraft was forced to return to London, before being ultimately cancelled. While flyers were accommodated in hotels, many were discouraged when they found out the next EasyJet flight wouldn’t depart for another 48 hours.

“I appreciate it’s not EasyJet’s fault that the flight was cancelled,” Karolina Davidson, a passenger aboard the aircraft, told IOM Today. “But the next available flight was a three full days’ wait and they didn’t offer me any other options.”

In the end, many passengers elected to fly on other carriers to get to Ronaldsway. Davidson decided to fly aboard British Airways to get home a day early at a cost of over $900 in airfare.

In a statement to IOM Today, EasyJet noted that adverse conditions can play a part in how flights arrive or land at Ronaldsway and safety is always priority. However, the airline defended their position in not offering another flight for three days, claiming they provided hotel accommodations to those affected.

“As there was limited availability on EasyJet flights within the following 48 hours passengers were advised to switch to an alternative airline and are entitled to reimbursement,” the statement to the news source read. “EasyJet would like to reassure passengers that it always does everything possible to minimize the impact of any disruption.”
