Man Slapped With Lifetime Ban After Drinking “Illicit” Alcohol & Causing Flight Diversion
Jet2 has issued a lifetime ban to an unruly passenger whose bad behavior caused a flight diversion last week.
Jet2 is sending a message to offensive and out-of-control passengers. Unruly and boorish behavior might just get you permanently banned from the British ultra-low-fare carrier, even if it means passengers on the airline’s no-fly list have to find a new way home from a foreign country.
According to BBC News, the latest passenger to earn a lifetime ban from Jet2 was traveling in a group of 14 vacationers who were on their way from Leeds Bradford International Airport (LBA) to Alicante, Spain last week. The man, identified as Grant Marshall of the U.K., reportedly refused to stop drinking “illicit” liquor he brought onboard and began exhibiting “intimidating language and threatening behavior” toward others. The pilot decided to divert the flight to Toulouse-Blagnac Airport (TLS), where Marshall was turned over to police.
Jet2 says it is making a concerted effort to protect its image as a family-friendly holiday airline. “We will not allow our customers’ holidays to be upset by an individual’s obnoxious behavior,” Managing Director Phil Ward told BBC. Ward also said that Jet2 is looking into legal ways of holding Marshall responsible for the costs associated with diverting his flight to TLS.
The airline also seems to be intent on making an example of the worst actor among any large group of rowdy travelers. A less-than-charming Pinocchio fan was traveling with a large group of costumed friends in June, when his vulgar actions earned him a lifetime ban from the airline leaving him to find his own way home from a getaway in Spain.
