Flight Attendant Faked Sobriety With Upside-Down Book
Helen Whitmore, a 53-year-old British Airways air hostess whose employment was terminated for showing up to work drunk, attempted to appear sober by pretending to read a book, but accidentally held it upside down, according to an employment tribunal. She was allegedly seen stumbling through a security check-in on October 9, 2014, and although she claims that the lack of coordination was due to symptoms of menopause, there are conflicting accounts from airport staff who claim that Whitmore’s stumbling was due to inebriation. A judge today ruled that Whitmore was drunk on the job, and her claims for unfair dismissal were rejected by the court.
