First Commercial Flight Lands in Antarctica

Adelie penguins on the iceberg in Antarctica

A Loftleidir Icelandic Boeing 757 is the first commercial flight to land in Antarctic last week thanks to Loftleidir Icelandic, tour company Antarctic Logistics and Expeditions, and NAS Corporation Limited.

In a statement, the tour company said it organized the trip to “prove the feasibility of landing commercial passenger airlines” in Antarctica. A majority of travelers currently visit the southernmost continent via boat.

I believe a few tour companies do fly & sail packages to Antartica using ARJ-85s.

Not the first commercial flight there have been such flights for some 30 years (some being private charters). This was the first ever landing by a commercial Boeing 757 passenger airliner. At least reference the original press release rather rehashing multiple articles: http://www.adventure-network.com/news/boeing-757-lands-union-glacier
