Fifth Harmony Singer Accused of Marijuana Possession at IAD

Singer missed concert in Brazil after citation from TSA checkpoint in Washington

One of the singers from girl group Fifth Harmony may be soon be crooning the blues after being accused of marijuana possession while trying to pass through the Transportation Security Administration checkpoint (TSA) at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). First reported by TMZ, singer Lauren Jauregui was accused of holding the drug during a routine screening at the airport.

According to sources speaking to the online tabloid, Jauregui was flagged for a secondary search at the airport by TSA officials working the checkpoint. The alleged marijuana was found during the search, though officials did not specify how much she may have been carrying. From there, Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police were called in to investigate.

Officials for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, nor the airport police, have issued a comment on the situation. An attorney for Jauregui told TMZ that the singer was “given a citation for possession of marijuana and released on her own recognizance.”

Although many cities have decriminalized the possession of two ounces or less of marijuana, it is still a federal offense to attempt to bring the drug onto federal property or into the secure area of airports. However, some states have come up with creative means of dealing with the situation. In Colorado, flyers are asked to return their marijuana to their cars, while Oregon has allowed marijuana to be brought aboard flights that are remaining within the state.

While Jaregui’s attorney told TMZ the situation would not affect her performance schedule, Billboard reports the singer was absent from the group’s concert in Brazil on Wednesday.

IAD (and DCA) are in Virginia; not a what one call a progressive state when it comes to cannabis (or anything else, come to think of it.)

I'm laughing that this is considered news, let alone a criminal act for still way too much of our country.
