Female Passenger Deplaned over Menstrual Cramps

Beth Evans was deplaned from a recent Emirates flight after crew overheard her talking about her period pains to her boyfriend, Joshua Moran. Emirates has defended its decision to remove the pair from the Dubai-bound flight, saying that it would not have wanted to endanger Evans’ safety.

A female passenger was removed from an Emirates flight to Dubai after cabin crew members overheard her talking about her menstrual cramps, the Metro reports. Beth Evans, 24, was deplaned along with her boyfriend, Joshua Moran, 26, last Saturday just before the flight departed from Birmingham Airport (BHX).

Upon hearing Evans mention her stomach pains to Moran, which Evans herself described as being ‘one out of ten’ in terms of their intensity, flight crew consulted with an off-site medical professional. This medical professional advised staff that, as a doctor was not traveling on the flight, the pair had to be removed from the plane.

In addition to the cost of their original tickets, the couple then spent another £250 ($350) in order to re-book their flights.

Commenting on the incident, Moran told The Sun, “To be kicked off for period pains, it was madness. Beth was in tears and getting upset when the hostess was asking her questions. It’s embarrassing to have to explain about period pains when it’s being overheard.”

He added, “They didn’t have anyone look her over. They just contacted a medical team in the US and they said Beth couldn’t fly.”

However, an Emirates spokesperson offered a slightly different version of the incident and defended the carrier’s actions, saying, “The passenger alerted crew that she was suffering from discomfort and pain and mentioned she was feeling unwell. The captain made the decision to request medical support and offload Ms Evans so she could access medical assistance. We would not have wanted to endanger Ms Evans by delaying medical help had she worsened during the flight.”

Could care less about the decision as we don't know the details/truth. But to charge a rebooking fee is something out of the 7th century. Perhaps cut her left hand off too?

@BlaiseBOS, as a woman myself, I don't think she was crying over the menstrual cramps. I think she was crying because the airline was kicking them off the plane. No one wants to be in the news because of something silly like this!

What the heck? Maybe women should start getting paid sick days for cramps if the corporations "care" so much!

Emirates Airlines will let people who are obviously sick with contagious disease, such as cold or flu, but throw a woman off for sometuing as normal and noncontagious as mild menstrual cramps.
