The TSA Surprises PDX With 300 Free Lunches

The TSA Surprises PDX With 300 Free Lunches
FlyerTalk
In a heartwarming show of solidarity, Federal TSA and Customs employees donated and handed out roughly 300 lunches from Portland’s local Beaches Restaurant and Bar. The gesture was a way for them to say thank you and pay back PDX employees for working without pay during the government shut down in late 2018 and early 2019.
“It is just a way for us to be able to give back to the community that really helped us when we were going through a hard time with furlough, it is just a nice way to say thank you to them,” Kathleen McDonald with the TSA said.

What They Served

“We are doing creamy pasta with vegetables, cucumber salad and a little bag of popcorn as well,” added McDonald.
In addition to serving meals, TSA agents and customs employees also donated food to stock a supply pantry to provide food for those in need.
“What we are donating is any dry goods, canned goods, and then any hard to find items like cleaning products, toilet paper, baby products as well, and so we are going to plan an event and lay that all out,” McDonald said.
This is actually the second lunch that that’s been served to workers at PDX. Another is planned but the date has not been finalized.

Sadly, another government jobs program that will only expand despite actual levels of staffing needed. I understand that ‘officers’ can elect to stay home at full pay if they choose too.

Stay safe everyone. If I had to fly I think I would be more concerned with TSA contact than any terrorist event, JMHO

PDX TSA folks are great–smart and friendly! I enjoy flying out of PDX for many reasons, including the quick security lines.

My home airport — I have to admit the TSA folks at PDX are a lot friendlier and nicer than any other TSA in the country. Maybe its all that rain ?
