Etihad Now Offers First Class Perks to Economy Passengers (With One Catch)

Starting next month, Etihad Airways will be providing their in-flight pajamas, champagne, amenity kits and other perks to economy passengers as well as those in business and first class.

The catch? In economy, these perks won’t be free and are only available on “ultra long-haul flights” on all routes except the US market.

Their Lacroix-designed pajamas, for example, will be available for purchase for £26 ($35) per pair.  Their amenity kits will be available for £16 ($22) and their Piper-Heidsieck Cuvee Brut NV champagne will go for £6 ($8) per glass.

In other words, they have discovered that there is money to be made by selling things at a profit. (While the price of a glass of very good champagne may be reasonable compared to what it sells for elsewhere, it's still way more than that amount of bubbly costs them.)

They need to improve their vegetarian meals in economy class. All these items for purchase are meaningless, if passengers don't get what they already paid for. SkyTrax gave Eithad 5 stars, time for Etihad to live up to this rating...

Pretty reasonable price for a glass of champagne!
