New lounge part of cabin interior upgrade project for Middle East carrier.
For those who feel that Emirates’ first-class onboard lounge may be feeling dated, a new experience will make its debut at a German tourism trade fare next month. In a press release, the airline announced the prototype of their new Airbus A380 onboard lounge will be the feature of the Emirates Infinite Possibilities booth at ITB Berlin, starting March 8.
The new lounge experience will retain the trademark horseshoe bar, but offer many upgraded amenities to make the entire experience feel much more luxurious. To enter, flyers will have to cross through sound-blocking curtains, which provide a feeling of privacy between the lounge and other cabins. Once inside, the new onboard lounge will feel much more like a private yacht cabin, complete with table seating on each side of the cabin. Lighter champagne colors will give the lounge a much more open feeling, complemented by dark wood trim.
While the look and feel of the lounge is changing, flyers can also expect to receive best-in-class treatment while at the lounge. The new lounges will feature gourmet canapés, wines, spirits and signature cocktails. Large-screen televisions will also broadcast flight information and live television programs. The new lounges will be able to serve 26 first-class passengers at a time.
“Since we first launched the product in 2008, our A380 Onboard Lounge has gone through small but successive enhancements in line with customer feedback,” Tim Clark, Emirates’ president, said in the press release. “In our latest revamp, we have taken inspiration from private yacht cabins, and amongst other thoughtful touches, we have increased the seating space, and also made it more intimate and conducive for our passengers to socialize or enjoy our lounge service.”
The onboard lounge area is currently flying on all of Emirates’ A380 aircraft. The first of the new onboard lounges will be debuted on an incoming A380 aircraft, set to begin operations in July 2017.
