Emirates Receives New Generation Planes

Emirates Airline has welcomed deliveries of a brand new generation of Airbus and Boeing aircraft.

As of November 15, Emirates is now welcoming deliveries of the newest aircraft in its fleet: the new generation of Airbus and Boeing planes: Airbus A380 and Boeing 777-300ER.

“These new aircraft reflect Emirates’ continued investment and commitment to flying a modern, environmentally–friendly fleet and providing its customers with a superior level of comfort and safety,” the airline said in a statement.

The new aircraft come with new perks. The A380 will have an updated seat configuration, a redesigned business class cabin with higher ceilings and larger overhead bins concentrated in the center aisles in addition to the already-present lounge and first class shower spa. This plane will be used to fly more ultra long-haul routes. Emirates is expected to receive 58 total A380s.

“The A380 is the sweetest thing for us. It is our one unique selling point; this is a marketing advantage,” Emirates president Tim Clark told ATW.

For the 777-300ERs, new features include fully reclinable business class seats, in-seat minibars, larger entertainment screens, a new seat configuration, remodeled lavatories, and improved fuel efficiency. The airline has an order for 27 777-300ER planes.

Now, Emirates’ entire fleet of aircraft is either Boeing 777s or Airbus A380s. That means upgrades to on-board entertainment, too. Customers will have full control of 100 percent on-demand video from up to 2,600 channels. The airline has 108 planes that offer live television as well, and 85 percent of the fleet offers on-board wi-fi.

Yes, the Dubai royal family is likely helping out financially, but U.S. carriers need to do better than flying old, but updated, 777s and 747s to Europe and Asia. Unless things change for the better for the U.S. legacy carriers we will continue to fly the Gulfies for the comfort, food, drinks, and enhanced service.
