Emirates Introduces Family Mile Pooling

Families who regularly travel aboard Emirates can now put all their frequent flyer miles together towards future trips. Starting today, Emirates Skywards members can pool miles under the “My Family” program. Each account allows for sharing from eight individuals, managed by a Family Head.

Families of up to eight can now put together their Emirates Skywards miles earned from trips together, with the intention of redeeming them for a major award. The Middle East carrier announced the introduction of the “My Family” program, allowing a Family Head to manage miles across accounts for group awards.

With My Family, each member can contribute up to 100 percent of their earned miles from flying Emirates towards the group travel pool. The number of miles contributed can be adjusted at any time. When the family has enough, the points may be used to purchase trips aboard Emirates or other Skywards Miles partners. Starting now, all 20 million Skywards members can sign up for the program and begin contributing miles towards a family account.

“The new enriched My Family program will provide our members with a better, more intuitive customer experience,” Dr. Nejib Ben Kehder, senior vice president of Skywards, said in a statement. “Allowing them to consolidate Skywards Miles earned on Emirates to reap faster rewards as well as tailor the proposition to meet their travel needs.”

The move to allow collective mile usage is one example of how Emirates is working to make their luxury products more family friendly. At their home airport in Dubai, families can check in at a dedicated ticketing desk, where free stroller use is available. Across all airports, families traveling with children are always given priority boarding.

In the air, Emirates is a leader in providing entertainment for children as well. Kids can look forward to special toys, activities and special meals during flights.

The change to make Skywards more family-friendly is the latest move to differentiate the frequent flyer program from competitors. Earlier in May, the program reduced their fee schedule to buy, gift or transfer miles between members.
