EasyJet’s Swimming, Waist and Tattoo Restrictions for Flight Attendants Make the News

EasyJet is looking for cabin crew at a number of bases, but it is after would-be members of staff who fit some pretty specific physical parameters. In addition to being between 5’2” and 6’3” in height, staff should be able to swim over 80 feet and be able to pass a physical prior to their employment.

Low-cost carrier EasyJet is recruiting for cabin crew, and the specific requirements in their recent job post caught the attention of The Daily Mail

In addition to being 18 years of age or older, the airline asks that staff are between 5’2” and 6’3” when standing in their bare feet, should be “able to swim 25m (82 feet) without any assistance, and climb into a life raft from the water,” cannot have tattoos and must have a waistline smaller than 42 inches.

A spokesperson for EasyJet explained the requirements to the outlet, saying, “Like all airlines, for safety reasons cabin crew must be able to fit into a safety harness and tall enough to reach the overhead lockers.

42 inch waste is enormous! I don't think this sounds very strict at all. The tattoo thing isn't clarified. I hope they mean just tattoos that still show while wearing their uniform?

Those sound like reasonable job related parameters to me. They’re not sexist or discriminatory. A non story.

i think 42" cant get through between the seats. i guess it's a typo, probably should be 24"

Tattoos not visible in uniform seems like an odd restriction unless "Easy"Jet is concerned about how cabin crew appear naked.

I just read this and wondered why it was posted. It’s a non story. If Easy Jet posted the old days of requirements of being unmarried, have a certain bust size, etc this would have been a story.
