Disruptive Passenger Sentenced to Year in Prison

A passenger who interfered with flight crew and forced a US Airways flight to divert to Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) in October was sentenced to a year in prison Wednesday.

The man, 40-year-old Steven Pectol, pleaded guilty in November to disrupting the flight from Phoenix when he ignored orders from crew to remain in his seat and had to be restrained after throwing his belongings.

A year in prison is steep. Is he an entitled A-hole? Yes. He should be on the no fly list for a year, hit with a hefty fine and forced to perform 200 hrs community service. But taking a year away from his life is too much. If he had the same behavior on a train, boat or bus would he have received a year in prison?
