Disney is getting into the luxury business. Walt Disney World just announced that a new luxury hotel will be opening at the Florida park in 2022. The property will be a deluxe resort that appeals to guests of all ages and offer waterfront views from its position adjacent to Bay Lake.
Disney plans to add more than 900 rooms to the property. Guests who choose to stay at the new luxury property that’s coming to Walt Disney World will be able to access Disney’s Magic Kingdom by boat. The new property will enjoy an enviable location nestled between the Fort Wilderness Resort and the Wilderness Lodge.
Disney is keeping a tight lip when it comes to what guests can expect once its new luxury property opens its doors in a few years. No announcement regarding the name or the theme of the resort has been made yet. However, the property’s location does give some hints regarding what Disney probably has in mind.
The hotel will be situated on a very woodsy, nature-heavy portion of land. The resorts that are already operating in the area are famous for their lodge-inspired looks and cozy cabins. That means that guests can probably expect a very rustic theme when visiting the luxury property that will soon join the mix.
One thing we do know is that a portion of the luxury hotel that’s planned for 2022 will be annexed for the Disney Vacation Club. This club operates much like a timeshare program that caters to visitors looking for apartment-styles accommodations. In addition to building a new property, Disney is also focusing on expanding some of its existing properties. The Coronado Springs Resort will soon have a 15-story tower that houses 545 rooms. Disney’s Riviera Resort is also under construction near the Caribbean Beach Resort.
You might be wondering why Disney thinks so many new rooms are necessary at its Florida location. A lot is planned for Disney World between now and when the new luxury hotel makes its debut in 2022. Disney will be opening Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and a TRON roller coaster soon. In addition, a new Mickey-themed ride is coming to the park. It is expected that these new additions will raise visitor numbers and create a higher demand for rooms. Disney is already removing benches and flower pots in anticipation of the huge spike in visitor traffic that will be experienced once Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens in the summer of 2019.
