South Korea is famous for its great food, beauty products and now a more surreal reason to visit: Cafe Yeonnam-dong 239-20 in Seoul.
This cafe serves the usual cafe fare–coffee and pastries–but with a black and white line-drawing design scheme that creates an optical illusion that makes you feel like you’re inside a two-dimensional cartoon.

#repost @imperialtastebuds . – How much is that doggie by the window? We searched high and low for this gem, so hard to find! But it was like entering a cartoon world, a tiny escapade from the busy world. (Chocolate latte/ Matcha latte – 4950won ea) 📸: @ongton . – #cafe연남동239_20 #연남동카페 #작은카페 #작은내부 #포토존 #카페추천
The design scheme was inspired by the hit Korean TV show W where real characters and cartoon characters coexist.
Now hundreds of real-life guests have been flooding Instagrams with photos of themselves in a comic book world. In fact, if you do plan on visiting, it’s a good idea to get there earlier in the day rather than later. This spot is so popular that they’ve been known to close early when they run out of coffee!
