“Deplorable and Aggressive” Bachelor Party Earns Lifetime Ban for Jet2 Passenger

Castle Donington, UK - June 3, 2016: a Boeing 737-330QC (G-CELR) commercial passenger aircraft operated by Jet2 about to land at East Midlands Airport near Nottingham, England.

Jet2 is taking a hard line after a wedding party “left a stag weekend in ruins and have subjected our crew and customers to a continued pattern of disgraceful and aggressive behavior.”

An entourage of 27 passengers celebrating a bachelor party weekend caused a Jet2 flight from Birmingham Airport (BHX) to Ibiza Airport (IBZ) to be diverted to Toulouse Blagnac Airport (TLS). Now, at least one of the reportedly over-indulging passengers has been grounded for life by the airline.

“Despite repeated warnings from the crew on our Birmingham to Ibiza flight on Friday 22nd June, a number of individuals from the same stag party continued to demonstrate a pattern of appalling and aggressive behavior, which left the crew with no choice but to divert to Toulouse where police met the aircraft and offloaded the group,” Jet2 officials said in a statement released on June 23. “Our crew had already made the decision to stop sales of alcohol on the flight, after one member of the group was refused boarding for being drunk and aggressive. Despite that, a number of the party continued to act in a deplorable and aggressive fashion once on the aircraft, something which cannot and will not be tolerated. After repeat warnings, the crew took the decision to divert the aircraft in the interests of everyone’s comfort and safety.”

According to the airline, one of the members of “the stag-don’t” party has already been informed that he is no longer welcome to fly on the airline in the future and other members of the group may yet face similar punishment. Jet2 has made a point of cracking down on disruptive passengers and has repeatedly called on government officials to curb passenger access to alcohol at U.K. airports. The airline partially blames the “cumulative effect of consuming alcohol in the airport, as well as illicitly once onboard the aircraft” for this latest incident.

“This is the second time that disruptive passenger behavior has caused one of our flights to be diverted in just a few weeks, so enough is enough,” Jet2 Managing Director Phil Ward said. “Proper measures need putting in place by the industry and government to ensure that our crew and customers can fly in a safe, trouble-free environment. As a family friendly airline flying millions of people on holiday every year, we are demanding that proper action is taken to protect our crew and customers from this appalling behavior.”

Exactly - Jet2 trying to deflect their own short-comings by saying the "government" needs to do something. It's already illegal to be drunk on board an aircraft, so breathalyzer the morons at the gate and don't let any of them on the flight if they are over the limit. Or will that impact Jet2's on-board DTF sales?

Just one more reason to use Jet2. Airlines need to take action. I do wonder why any of them were allowed to fly after one member of the party was denied boarding for just the behaviour that then had the flight diverted.
