Delta Says They Don’t Overbook That Much

Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian has said that, compared to other airlines, Delta is almost 10 times better at denying boarding involuntarily to its passengers – specifically, airlines that advertise they don’t overbook. According to USA Today, “Delta denied boarding involuntarily to 1,238 passengers last year out of 129 million, or about one in 100,000 passengers.”

Delta does a great job with this. They are generous and offer Amex gift cards not just vouchers. They are the leaders in this.

"Delta denied boarding involuntarily to 1,238 passengers last year" - That means that a couple of dozen times a week Delta is unable to "bribe" paying passengers to voluntarily move to a later flight. Overbooking is fine, as long as laws are passed that airlines have to "bribe" passengers with cash, not credit on future flights with them!
