Delta Tied A Woman With MS to Her Wheelchair?

Staff at Delta Airlines tied a woman with multiple sclerosis to a wheelchair and told her to “shut the f—- up” when she started crying says Nathan Saliagas, the son of the woman in question.

The trouble began, Nathan says, after his mother landed in Amsterdam. Although he had arranged for her to be met at the gate with a special wheelchair equipped with straps to keep her upright, none was available.

So the gate agents brought a regular wheelchair and then, “They took a dirty blanket and tied her forcefully with it and she has bruise marks on part of her arm because it was so tight and she started crying. That’s when that picture was taken,” Nathan Saliagas said.

When she started crying, Nathan explained in a Facebook post about the incident, they told her to “shut the f— up” or she would be “left there.”

A Delta representative sent Channel 2 Action News a statement about the incident saying:

“We regret the perception our service has left on these customers. We have reached out to them, not only to resolve their concerns, but also ensure that their return flight exceeds expectations.”

Nathan Saliagas says that the airline offered them 20,000 free Delta SkyMiles in compensation but he says that that’s not enough. They want to see Delta Airlines change its policy on how it handles passengers with disabilities.

Delta does not have a fully staffed airport presence at Amsterdam. Everything on the ground is handled by their partner carrier KLM. It's just like all of KLM's destinations in the USA is handled by Delta. The direct blame should rest on KLM's ground staff, but Delta may be indirectly at fault as well.

They didn't have to use a dirty rag or shout abuse at her though.

If they didn't have straps, what else could they do, other than tie her in with something else? Apparently she required something to restrain her to the wheelchair.

20,000 miles?? Too bad she didn't fall and split her head open - then she might have gotten enough miles for a free domestic flight and been able to meet even more of Delta's employees.

Nonsense, it is not 500000 miles. I just booked Dallas to Munich for 140000 miles And, it has been quite a while since you can do it for 45000
