Delta, Southwest Named “Best Places to Work”

Delta and Southwest Airlines placed among the 50 best places to work according to this year’s Glassdoor survey of employers.

Airbnb unseated Google to take the top spot in this year’s employee feedback-based ranking of employers. The tech sector continued to dominate the 2015 report with Google, Apple, Twitter and Silicon Valley firms earning high marks, but the travel industry was well-represented in this year’s survey by the recruiting and job hunter’s resource site. Delta Airlines earned 21st place on the list of “The 50 Best Places to Work.” Southwest Airlines also made the list in the 42nd position.

The Glassdoor rankings are based solely on feedback from employees of the companies surveyed. Factors considered in the annual awards include career opportunities, compensation, benefits, work/life balance, senior management and the company’s culture and values.

“It’s tremendous to be recognized by Glassdoor for being a great place to work and reflecting our employment brand in such a genuine way,” Delta Airlines Director of Talent Acquisition Glen Johnson said in reaction to the honor. “When you hear people talk about their careers here, you can tell that they’re proud to work at Delta.”

Southwest Airlines employees listed opportunities for advancement as a major perk of working for the Dallas-based airline, while Airbnb employees singled out their employer’s fast growth as a major plus.

Other travel industry leaders to make the list of best workplaces include the travel booking site Expedia, which was ranked 16 among the 50 best employers and GE Aviation, making this list in 41st place.
