Delta Responds to Trump Ranter Aboard Flight

CEO Ed Bastian: “He will never again be allowed on a Delta plane.”

Delta Air Lines has responded to a flyer who disrupted a flight last week with a lifetime ban from their airline. In an internal memo posted to their website, airline chief executive Ed Bastian congratulated their flight crews for their handling of the situation, while assuring the flyer would not board another Delta aircraft.

“This individual displayed behavior that was loud, rude and disrespectful to his fellow customers,” Bastian wrote in the memo distributed across the airline. “He will never again be allowed on a Delta plane.”

The outburst took place aboard a Delta flight from Atlanta to Allentown, Pennsylvania, on Nov. 22. A video of the statement was posted on Facebook by another flyer. In the 45-second outburst laced with vulgarities, the flyer cheered on the election of Republican candidate Donald Trump, while mocking those who supported Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. The video has been viewed over two million times on Facebook.

“He’s your president, every [explicative] one of you,” the flyer stated in the video. “If you don’t like it, too bad.”

The Associated Press has not identified the flyer.

In reviewing the incident, Bastian said flight attendants questioned the flyer and ultimately allowed him to stay on the flight. However, the executive went on to note that if the flight attendants had witnessed the behavior displayed by the flyer, he would have been removed. In apologizing to those aboard the aircraft, Bastian announced all the flyers would receive refunds.

“Part of being a reliable travel partner and a servant leader is acknowledging our mistakes so we can learn from them and respond more effectively in the future,” Bastian wrote. “Delta has apologized to the customers onboard that flight. We are also refunding those customers the cost of their tickets.”

Furthermore, Bastian sent out a plea to flyers, flight attendants and pilots to maintain respect and dignity aboard flights. The executive expressed his gratitude for the front-line employees, telling his workers: “We have your backs.”

“The heightened tension in our society means that now more than ever we must require civility on our planes and in our facilities,” Bastian wrote. “We must stay true to Delta’s core values and treat one another with dignity and respect.”

A ban for a non-threatening action or specific harassment of another passenger is a tad bizarre, let alone a lifetime ban. I am glad that Euro carriers do not have this power and option - airlines dump a lot of noise and pollution on all of us, they must accept a public transport obligation in return.

about time an airline has the guts to ban a jackass from their flights forever for obnoxious behavior..........status flyer or not..... this denial-of-ever-traveling-on-our-airline-again action for bad behavior should be SOP for every airline..... good job DL.....
