$500 Fine for Delta Branded Apple Dropped

Customs & Border Patrol has agreed to waive the $500 fee they charged passenger Crystal Tadlock for carrying an apple, which she was given by Delta Air Lines as an in-flight snack during her returning flight from France and which was wrapped in plastic bearing the Delta Air Lines logo. Her Global Entry benefits had also been revoked.

In relation to the incident, Tadlock contacted her Congressman, Ed Perlumutter, who said “It didn’t sound right. It sounded excessive. I found myself kind of offended that there would be a $500 fine for an apple wrapped in plastic from Delta.”

Funny no mention is made her about the PSX obeying the rules printed in plain english on the landing card though or having any understanding of immigration procedures she could clearly have learned about before training. I'm amazed at the amount of people using their cell phones while waiting for their luggage in the customs clearing area where there are many signs posted saying that isn't allowed. The amount of people feeling they are entitled and disobey rules is troubling.
