Delta Baggage Handler Accused of Smuggling Loaded Weapons in Carry-On Luggage

A Delta baggage handler in Atlanta stands accused of smuggling loaded weapons in carry-on luggage using security credentials.

A Delta Air Lines baggage handler is facing criminal charges of trafficking firearms after authorities say he used commercial flights to smuggle guns from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). AP reports 31-year-old Delta baggage handler Eugene Harvey was arrested by the FBI and stands accused of using his security credentials to smuggle guns onto commercial flights in carry-on luggage.

According to CNN, Harvey worked with an accomplice, former Delta employee Mark Quentin Henry, to move guns from ATL to New York. In the arrest affidavit obtained by CNN, investigators allege Harvey used his security credentials to bypass the TSA checkpoint and meet Henry at the airport. In the secure area, the Harvey allegedly handed off bags with the guns inside to Henry. Henry would then continue on a flight to New York, with the bags as carry-on luggage. The AP reports Henry used a buddy pass from his mother, a retired Delta employee, to arrange the flight.

While the number of guns smuggled through ATL is unknown, the affidavit claims that Henry took five flights to New York from May 1 to December 10 of this year. During that time, Henry allegedly illegally sold over 100 weapons, including assault rifles. Henry was arrested on December 10 at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), in possession of a bag with 18 guns inside.

In a statement to Atlanta television station WSB-TV, Delta expressed their cooperation in the ongoing investigation. “We take seriously any activity that fails to uphold our strict commitment to the safety and security of our customers and employees,” the statement said.

I didn't think anyone was allowed inside security by bypassing TSA checkpoint no matter who you are, even if you are president of the airline or a baggage handler. What the hell? That's a terrorist loop hole just waiting to be exploited..
