Close Call at Brisbane Airport

On October 11, a Virgin Australia aircraft and a Qantas aircraft flew dangerously close to one another while they departed from and arrived at Brisbane Airport (BNE), respectively. Inclement weather has been cited as a reason for the loss of separation between the two flights.

“The controller issued a weather diversion and approach clearance to the inbound Boeing 737, which resulted in a loss of separation with the departing Boeing 737,” read a statement from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB).
