O’Hare (Finally) Opens New Runway

O’Hare International Airport (ORD) finally unveiled its long-in-development runway and air traffic control tower last week, marking the newest renovation in the airport’s $9 billion update plan. The strip is located on ORD’s southern end and will be reserved for arrivals operating in “east flow” weather.

The Federal Aviation Administration’s deputy administrator, Michael Whitaker, said the new additions will allow controllers to land upwards of 100 aircraft an hour. “This is an important improvement not just for O’Hare, but for our entire air traffic system,” he said.
