Celebrity Chef Alton Brown Burned by United, Fricassees Airline via Twitter Over “Third Class”
Alton Brown, celebrity chef and host of Food Network’s Good Eats, took to social media Sunday night to vent his frustrations with United Airlines, tweeting:
Hey @united, fifty bucks to sit on the floor? Turns out there is a third class…your LA club! pic.twitter.com/15vMf9hZCv
— Alton Brown (@altonbrown) April 13, 2015
Brown shared a picture alongside the tweet in which he appears to be sitting on the lounge floor. United responded to the complaint, tweeting back:
@altonbrown We're disappointed to hear this. Which Club in LAX are you currently located at? ^ML
— United (@united) April 13, 2015
to which Brown replied:
@united the only one you currently have open. If you don't have room for folks, you ought not take their money…just sayin'
— Alton Brown (@altonbrown) April 13, 2015
The airline then encouraged Brown to send a private message via Twitter, yet it is unclear how or if the situation was resolved. In the meantime, several of Brown’s followers shared their sympathy, insight and jokes with tweets like:
@altonbrown :-( Sounds like another thrilling episode of….GOOD SEATS! #zing @united

Even @FakeUnitedJeff, a popular parody account that impersonates United CEO Jeff Smisek, got involved in the social media saga.
@altonbrown Sorry, buddy. Supply and demand during construction. While you're there, I'd suggest you avoid the snacks. You know why.

The explanation is quite simple. In a grand new game of Cutthroat Travel, Delta CEO Richard Anderson paid $3,000 to saddle United Airlines with Continental and CEO Jeff Smisek.
