Cathay A330 Loses Engine Mid-Flight, Makes Emergency Landing With 251 Onboard

A Cathay Pacific flight was forced to make an emergency landing Friday after the engine shut down mid-flight and caused flames to burst from the wing. The trouble aboard CX170, en route from Perth (PER) to Hong Kong (HKG), was caused by an engine defect, according to a statement from the airline.

“Mid-flight, we thought we heard a loud bang and the plane started to shake, all the lights went out and when I looked to the window, I saw flames and sparks indicating the wing and the motor was on fire,” said passenger Joel Sirna.

The Airbus A330 diverted to Denpasar, Indonesia (DPS), landing safely with no reports of injuries among the 251 passengers and crew.

To paraquote Oscar Wilde, To have an engine fail may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose an engine looks like carelessness.

A somewhat lazy article. Firstly, by using the term 'the engine' it makes it sound like the aircraft only has one engine. Secondly, you felt the need to state it was an Airbus A330 but dispensed with who actually made the engine. Also, did the engine shut down cause flames to burst from the wing? Or was it a fault that caused flames to burst from the wing, following which the engine was shut down.
