An Air France passenger’s unusual approach to getting a little more comfortable during a recent flight caught some fellow passengers off guard, but flight attendants took the man’s antics in stride, reportedly offering little more than a shrug and a glass of wine when nearby flyers complained about the underwear-clad seatmate.
An Air France (AF) passenger with a penchant for singalongs became a viral sensation this week when a seatmate live-tweeted the man’s unique efforts to make himself a little more at home on a flight from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Cabin crew members, however, reportedly barely batted an eye when faced with a fun-loving flyer in various states of undress.
“The man in the seat across from me has taken HIS PANTS OFF for the flight and is just in his boxers,” Twitter user Lizzie Thompson wrote in a now infamous post. “Flight attendants seem unconcerned. This is going to be a long flight.” She later updated, “He just shouted at a man who boarded with a ukulele (also have questions) to COME SIT WITH ME AND MAKE SOME MUSIC. Wtf is going on?”
According to the stunned flyer’s social media feed, a flight attendant offered to relocate her to another seat when she complained about the boxer-clad flyer across the aisle, but when Thompson suggested the cabin crew member ask the pantless air traveler to get dressed instead, she says her request was met with a shrug.
Her wry Twitter description of the unexpectedly eventful transatlantic flight noted that the ukulele duet, fortunately, never materialized. Thompson wrote that the especially relaxed and much too casually attired seatmate at one point grabbed four mini bottles of wine from the beverage cart before taking a long nap.
She reported that the pantless flyer apparently became somewhat chilly during the flight and eventually donned a puffy winter jacket – but was still not inclined to put his trousers back on. While Thompson questioned the crew’s nonchalant attitude about the whole affair, she praised a flight attendant who “slipped me extra wine and did keep checking in to make sure I was good.”
Although crew members were said to have been resistant to the idea of escalating the situation involving a half-naked, but apparently harmless, air traveler, other Air France officials took a less favorable view of the inflight antics. “Hi Lizzie_Thompson, Thank you for your tweet, we have forwarded your feedback to the relevant department,” the airline wrote in response to her initial tweet.
