Business Class Passenger Finds Vomit on British Airways Seat

A passenger on a recent British Airways flight is shaming the airline online after flight attendants made him sit in a seat with dried vomit on it, only offering a blanket to cover it up after he requested one. A flight attendant also suggested he was the one that actually made the mess on the seat.

A recent British Airways passenger took to social media to shame the airline after being forced to stay in a seat with dried vomit on it. The passenger, Dave Gildea, didn’t notice the vomit on his business class seat until he extended the footrest to get some sleep, and it was everywhere. It was also on the wall and the floor.

But when he told the cabin crew about it, they suggested it was his own vomit and refused to move his seat.

“He didn’t offer a seat change or an apology, so I asked for a blanket to cover it up so I could put my feet down,” Gildea told The Sun. “Of course as I slept, I moved around on the blanket so I woke up with dried vomit on my feet. It was pretty disgusting. With the price I paid for the ticket, I was shocked.”

Members of the FlyerTalk forums have used this story as a chance to reminisce of their own messy in-flight troubles. User TheBigRat luckily had a much better experience than Gildea:

“Ok – on a recent LHR -> AUH flight in WT+ I had dried vomit on the seatbelt and floor,” they wrote. “The crew were mortified, moved me to Club, put the seat out of use and crew members briefed by the CSM. I took the return flight 26 hours later – same crew – and was again apologised to by more than one crew member. I can’t speak for others experiences – and it is a major failure make no mistake – but the crew that I travelled with did all they could to recover.”

Forum user crazyegg noted that British Airways is notorious for not cleaning properly:

“I once spilt some red wine on a BA A380 (upstairs, Economy, window, bulkhead),” they said. “It was on top of, and ran into, the side storage compartment. I was embarrassed and did my best to clean it up with paper towel but it was dark, I was tired, and didn’t do the best job. Anyhow, point being, fast forward 3 months and I found myself on the same aircraft, same seat, and you can probably guess the rest. My red wine spill was still there to greet me inside the compartment as I opened the lid :-)”
