Brown Water, Dead Flies: Carnival Cruises Fails Big

If you’re traveling on Carnival Cruise Line’s “Fantasy” ship any time soon, you might want to bring hand sanitizer and some cleaning wipes; the ship just miserably failed a sanitation inspection report, receiving one of the worst grades ever, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In high school, scoring 77 out of 100 might have been an acceptable passing grade—but with cruise lines, it’s a whopping failure. Carnival Cruise Line’s “Fantasy” ship just received that grade in a sanitation inspection report conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention—a grade the CDC says is one of the worst report results ever for Carnival.

The ship failed in several areas. Flies were on bagels and bread in the salad bar, brown water was coming out of shower hoses in the medical center, a clean dish rack was full of dirty cups and dishes, and there were a number of reports showing that employee intestinal infections weren’t dealt with properly.

In response to the report, Carnival released a statement reported by NBC News that the results of the inspection “are not reflective of our robust standards and dedicated commitment to our guests’ health and safety.” It also states that corrective measures have already been taken, and asks for another inspection—but no corrective action statement has been received by the CDC yet.

The ship has more than 1,000 staterooms and can carry more than 2,000 passengers at once. In Carnival’s history, this was the third-worst rating received. The all-time worst was a 71, given to the “Legend” ship in 2006.

I call these "prison ships". We can sit on our balcony and view them carrying the people who chose to be incarcerated. And why do people go overseas to supposedly visit Italy or Spain by ship? Never a chance to really engage w. locals or eat local food. They have to be herded back to prison to eat/sleep. As your President would say: "Saad" (Sad)

Actually, Carnival, the inspections results ARE reflective of your "robust" standards and "dedicated commitment" to your guests' health and safety. And that's the problem.

Why not rebrand Carnival as the MAX of cruise lines? Have you ever noticed how these problems continue to arise? We've never been on a cruise and never will.
