British Airways Flight Experiences Rapid Descent
A British Airways flight was forced to declare a state of mid-air emergency after the aircraft underwent a “rapid descent” shortly after taking off from Heathrow Airport (LHR) at around 10:20 p.m. The nature of the Airbus A321’s malfunction is still unclear, and flight crew made a U-turn while flying over the North Sea to bring the 220 passengers aboard the flight back to Heathrow. One air traffic controller believes that the plane may be experiencing decompression issues, forcing it to perform a quick descent in order to maintain cabin pressure. “Considering it’s had a rapid decent down to FL90 and is continuing back to Heathrow my opinion is it is some kind of decompression issue,” he said.
