Boeing 767 Catches Fire at Fort Lauderdale Airport

Dynamic Airways Flight 405 caught fire Thursday while taxiing for departure at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, several people were injured. At the time of reporting, it is unclear how many people were onboard the Boeing 767, which was on its way to Simón Bolívar International Airport (CCS).

Emergency crews responded and doused the aircraft with foam. The FAA says passengers evacuated via emergency slides.

FLL spokesman Greg Meyer told Local 10 the airline reported an engine fire shortly before its scheduled 12:30 p.m. EDT takeoff. An Air Traffic Control radio transmission confirms that the 767 was leaking jet fuel prior to the fire.

The aircraft that caught fire is reportedly nearly 30 years old and has been owned by a number of airlines since its first use in 1986 by Kuwait Airways.

Dynamic has yet to issue a statement on the incident.

FLL confirmed via Twitter that the airport briefly closed and has since reopened.
