A Broken Window on Southwest Forces (Another) Unscheduled Landing

Updated: 05/02/18

Just over two weeks after the fatal Southwest flight in which a woman was partially sucked out of a broken window, there has been another malfunction on a Southwest Airlines flight.

Southwest Airlines flight 957, originally en route to Newark from Chicago, made an unscheduled landing this morning at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport after a window in the plane was broken during the flight.

While there were initially no official details released on what happened on the flight, several passengers have tweeted photos of the broken window, which may have been in the emergency exit door.

The FAA did confirm that there was an emergency landing and that there was a report of an issue with the window.

Updated reports have revealed that there were no injuries on Flight 957 and that it landed safely after making an abrupt turn toward Cleveland while over Lake Erie.

The 76 passengers on board told The Associated Press that they heard popping and that the passengers sitting near the window moved away from it quickly.

Southwest Airlines spokeswoman Brandy King says that the plane never lost cabin pressure and that the pilots did not declare an emergency before landing. The damage was done to one of the three layers in the window.

Boeing declined to identify the supplier that manufactured the windows on its 737-700s, the model involved in Wednesday’s incident and last month’s fatal accident.

Considering how many people like to leave the shade down, it's lucky this was spotted.
