Blogger Who Offered “Free Sex” at A Mobbed Hilton Is Arrested

One Chinese blogger learned the power of social media the hard way, after being arrested for advertising “free sex” and offering a location, according to Newsweek.

19-year-old blogger Ye Mouyi with the username Qianjin Yeye, uploaded a video of herself in a bikini onto Weibo—the Chinese equivalence of Twitter—and WeChat promising free sex to anyone that came to her hotel room. She then added that she was staying at the Hilton Hotel in Sanya City, Hainan province, in room 6316. Needless to say, the post went viral and chaos soon ensued.

Men began knocking at the blogger’s door and asking about where to find her room at the front desk. Ye Mouyi eventually posted another video telling men to stop showing up at her door and that the first video had been a joke. She requested that the hotel security escort her from her room to her taxi. Hours after she left, police showed up to her arrest her after the hotel staff complained to police about the unruly men now converging on the hotel.

Eventually, the police caught up with her at a hotel at Sanya Phoenix International Airport for suspicion of prostitution and disruption operations at the Hilton. The blogger said she posted the video as an effort to gain more followers.

Ye Mouyi’s social media accounts have since been taken down and she has been fined 500 yuan ($79) and jailed for 15 days.

The Hilton Hotel hasn’t commented.

I’m not fond of China’s heavy-handed police approach to these sorts of situations, but as for the mob of men descending on her location in response to her post... really, what did she expect to happen?
