Bachelor Party “Kidnapping” Plot Foiled at Gatwick

A stag party plan to snatch a groom away for one last night of bachelorhood was disrupted when airport security discovered a weapon and evidence of an ill-advised caper in a suitcase.

An Australian man who landed at London Gatwick Airport (LGW) had big plans to throw a surprise stag party for his soon-to-be-married friend. Instead, the unidentified flyer received a big surprise of his own when authorities at the airport discovered that the Australian’s luggage contained a large hunting knife along with detailed notes explaining how to kidnap someone.

In what could have been a scene from Crocodile Dundee, the Australian was unaware that his six-to-seven inch knife was not legal for UK airports. According to The Daily Mail, he was carrying the knife because he liked to spend time outdoors. The step-by-step blueprints detailing a kidnapping scheme were a little harder to explain.

It turns out the supposed “kidnapping plot” was simply a prank to whisk his mate away to Berlin for a bachelor party before he walked down the aisle.

Gatwick Police Sergeant Darren Taylor told The Daily Mail that the incident caused some tense moments for both investigators and the traveler involved. “He had printed notes on the best way to kidnap someone and was carrying a large hunting knife, so of course it was quite worrying,” Taylor noted. “The man appeared to be very bewildered and embarrassed, which is not surprising as he had been detained and then we came along.”

In the end, the embarrassed flyer simply turned his knife over to authorities and learned a valuable lesson about exactly how much room airport security allows for pranks before being released.
