At Least Four Injured After A320 Experiences Hydraulic Failure

At least four flyers were injured while aboard an Air India flight to Delhi Monday when the Airbus A320 experienced a hydraulic failure. The left wing of AI 405, carrying 146 passengers and nine crew members, reportedly caught fire while the aircraft was attempting to land at Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL). An airline representative later denied reports of a fire, saying the failure only caused “some smoke.”

aircraft in question was VT-ESI, delivered to then Indian Airlines new in 1989. These are the only double-bogey Airbus 320s in the world and were made specifically on Indian Airlines' request to accommodate shorter and rougher air strips back then.
