Analysis Claims Travel Ban Could Cost Tourism Industry $18 Billion

The temporary travel ban put into place by an executive order from President Donald Trump could leave an $18 billion dollar dent in the American tourism industry over the course of the next two years, according to projections made by travel analysts. Foreign tourism is a business worth approximately $250 billion every year, and both the original and revised versions of the executive order temporarily banning all travel from six Muslim-majority countries have severely reduced interest in travel to the United States, even after being subsequently struck down in court.

“The U.S. has put an unwelcome mat at our front door,” said Henry Harteveldt, president of Atmosphere Research Group.
