American Introduces Flagship Suites for 2024 Flights

After announcing a change to cross-country domestic flights, American Airlines is now introducing a Flagship Suite seat set to debut in 2024.
American Airlines flyers can look forward to a new premium product for domestic and international travel starting in 2024, with the delivery of new aircraft.

The Fort Worth-based carrier announced a new direction for their premium cabin offering, Flagship Suite seats, along with their premium economy offering on future flights.

Flagship Suites to Offer Redesigned Interior, Suite Doors and More Storage

The new seating options will be available in 2024, starting with new deliveries of the airline’s Airbus A321XLR and Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner deliveries. The new seats are part of a larger interior redesign for the airline, highlighting a more private premium experience for those in the forward cabins.

The new Flagship Suite features a closing door at each business class seat, giving flyers more privacy for their travels. Much like the current business class offering, each suite features a larger seat which can be converted into either a chaise lounge or full lie-flat bed.

In addition to offering more privacy, travelers in the premium cabin will also have more storage space within their cabin. Each seating area will feature a larger in-flight entertainment screen, more tray space for meals or getting work done and bedding from Casper.

For the widebody Boeing 787 Dreamliner, flyers will have their choice of 51 Flagship Suite seats when they come online in 2024. Aboard the Airbus A321XLR, 20 Flagship Suites will be available per flight. The seats will ultimately come to the carrier’s line of 20 Boeing 777-300ER airframes by late 2024, with 70 Flagship Suites to be installed on each aircraft.

The airline will also refresh their premium economy seating as well. The new seating for their premium economy section will feature a seat with headrest wings to improve privacy, as well as double the in-seat storage space compared to the current seating option.

New Seating Follows A321T Change Announcement

The new seating comes after American announced they would start phasing out the three-class Airbus A321T, offering a first class and business class seat on select cross-country flights within the United States. However, the airline said they will continue to “offer lie-flight seats on its transcontinental routes departing New York and Boston” along with Northeast Alliance partner JetBlue. American says they will “align those 16 [Airbus A321T] aircraft with the rest of the A321 fleet,” suggesting the Flagship Suites could be available on domestic flights.

I think what beats the trying to use the First class restroom are those economy passengers who attempt to steal a First class seat until they are caught.  I've seen this happen far too many times and see it go unpunished over and over...
